you know, i liked "clueless." if you're going to make an austen update, it's the best one out there. sure, "briget jone's diary" is a nice P&P, but "clueless" is the closest and the best, and since "emma" is my favorite austen, i stand by it.
but now they've gone and done it, blasphemy, re-entering the garden without permission, daring to tread where angels are only meant to go....and turning my most beloved austen novel into....oh! i can hardly tell you!!! they are turning it into a musical.
i have to pause for breath, because i have not said all.
my dears. they are turning "emma"....oh no. i cannot say. i cannot!!! oh all right, by mrs. jennings, i'll tell you. they are turning "emma" into... into...
*whispers* a hip. hop. musical.
*cries silently into her handkerchief*
you must excuse me. i am quite unwell.

I love the shit out of Clueless. Donald Faison and Paul Rudd, baby- they're all I need. Rollin' with the homies...
I refuse to consider Bridget Jones a P&P spin. Mostly because Bridget is nowhere near Lizzy material. Lizzy isn't neurotic or slow-witted.

Date: 2008-04-15 02:05 am (UTC)It actually might lend itself to the hip-hop format more than most works- spoiled rich girl is taken down a notch or two. Hopefully they'll treat it with integrity. I have low expectations, but I guess I can't knock it until I see it. If I can work up the courage to see it, that is.
(This is my open-minded approach to the situation. In reality, I'm frightened. So frightened.)
