Day 23: A YouTube Video

youtube is disabled at work, and this makes me sad...but is probably for the best. i go through my facebook and livejournal and actually keep a list on my desk of all the videos i want to access in a day. that list goes home with me and about once or twice a week i have youtube time with my computer at home.

so. even though i can't embed right now, i can still tell you what my current favorite youtube video is. go search for "happy in paraguay."

there's this character (dayjoborchestra) who takes clips of star trek: the next generation and redubs whole scenes. the dialogue at first sounds like a big load of gibberish, and you get to laughing so hard that you miss some of it. but he does an incredible job with mimicking some of the voices and chooses things that synch up impeccably--albeit ridiculously--with their mouths. this means there's a lot of talk of apple juice (it's a phrase that syncs well in most dialogue).

anyway. i have been, on occasion, known to watch this 5 times in a row and still be amused. the first time i watched it, i had to get up and go get a glass of water; i was tearing up and coughing and gasping for air, i found it so funny. you might not, but i surely did. fk. i'm giggling just thinking about it now. if worf's "let's make apple juice and fax it to each other" doesn't get you, then picard's "come over, we'll put on some zepplin and eat cheddar cheese" will. perhaps on the second or third viewing, you may also be able to answer how many fish there are. engage.

the list )
i got to go to the dentist last night. it was awesome. after having no insurance out in california, my teeth were in bad bad need of a scrub--two and a half years worth of plaque and tarter. blech. the thing is, i'm about to go into a show where i will be kissing some poor boy. the emotional investment alone is going to turn me into a sweaty mess, he really doesn't need acky breath on top of it. what can i say? i try to be nice to my fellow actors when it comes to germs and hygene.

and was it the most uncomfortable dentist visit ever? yes. i went back to my regular clinic, knowing that an old high school friend is one of their rotating team of dentists. i thought to ask, while making the appointment, that she not be assigned to me, because having an old classmate digging in your teeth and staring up your nose is weird. but she's never worked evenings in the past, what are the chances?

the chances are pretty good, actually. normally, i'd expect a surprised, hi, how have you been. but upon recognising the connection there was only clinical indifference, followed by teeth pokings, a good bill of dental health, a nice to see you again, and gone. weird.

even weirder...she seemed so...old. i mean, we're the same age, but she seemed so professional and no-nonsense. not that it made me feel immature--maybe a little--but it felt like she had aged twice as fast as me; nothing to do with her physicality, it was all in her manner and voice. she was definitely a steel-cold woman, whereas i feel like i still have a foot in girlhood. well. not really a surprise there.

i gave it a second look once i got home and wondered if it was time for me to grow the hell up. and then i saw myself comparing myself to someone who has a very different life, which is a silly thing to do. and i dropped it.

i totally didn't intend to make a jounal entry about my trip to the dentist.

what i mean to say was: i went to the dentist's last night, and my clinic is in edina. so every time i go there, i swing by michaels and see what's going on.

i don't know why i do this, but i cruise the kit isle. most craft stores are awash in cross stitch kits from dimensions and krafty korner, things that i would never be caught with in my hoop. ick.

but there it was, beckoning. i shit you not, a kit for a three-wolf moon cross stitch piece. THREE-WOLF MOON. it glowed with an ironic yumminess not generally found in your usual michaels stock.

but $20 for it? i couldn't justify that.

so i roamed the store, coming back to it every now and then, longingly wondering if i should. in the end, i picked up a dollar item, paid for it, and left.

and then i noticed my reciept had coupon for 50% off any item this weekend.

i am crossing my fingers that it'll still be there when i return.
