this was actually taken a couple of weeks ago. there's not much left, but i had to put it aside during the holiday rush.

there were many reasons i took on this piece. something about the old-celtic art feel of it. i can use the branches and the thistle patterns for other things, and i've kept my very favorite part--the sky, forthcoming--for last. but that dragon. i'm telling you i'm in love with him. it's one thing to get yerself a nice chinese or welsh dragon. but the old book-o-celts wtfisthat look is fun.

Date: 2008-12-18 11:02 pm (UTC)generally i just track down patterns and buy the supplies seperately, that way i can customize the fabric and colors. with this one, i just had a bunch of ivory 18 count aida (although i kind of wish i'd put it on evenweave, oh well). the threadpack was a special order though...there's a woman who hand-dyes threads and put together a pack specifically for this pattern (for which i had to backorder an old magazine). and that's another reason i wanted to try it: hand-dyed threads stain the fabric, so you have to be REALLY careful when you count. if you miscount and have to pull it out, you can tell where the floss was. nice challenge.
anyway. the short answer is: a little of both. if i like the pattern and it comes with a kit, i might get the kit. if not (or i don't like the kit), i'll get the supplies myself.
and if you ever ask me another question about stitching, i'll talk yer ears off. er...type..your...eyes out? you know what i mean!
