who got to see "harry potter and the order of the phoenix" two weeks early? last night? for FREE??? siri and i.

bow down to our awsome powers of potter-maina.

thank you to jodi who pointed out the promotion to me. and thank you, to myspace and WB for making st paul one of the few premiere cities. i will now start to berate myspace a little less.

we got off work early and hussled over to roseville AMC. there was a lot of full-on anxiety on my part, because i ran into traffic and had to find an alternative route to roseville. but i made it, #256 out of the 270 people let in.

of course, we had to wait in line for about 4 hours. but it was a nice day, and totally worth it.

okay. i'm going to be as appetizing and spoiler-free as possible with this one.

1. luna lovegood FTW. i've always liked her, but i know people who are obsessed with her. well, now i am too. that actress is pure perfection.

2. kreacher is very very understated...and that's a good thing. he's amazingly, hauntingly creepy.

3. jason isaccs as lucious has come down from his over-the-top pedistal and become a very smoothed out character. niiiiice.

4. i'm not a fan of gambon as dumbledore, because i really don't feel the fatherly love for harry that he's supposed to have. but. he was brilliant in the trial scene...and fkn fantastic in the duel at the ministry.

5. that being said, the duel at the ministry is wonderful. they did great, great things.

6. you can tell the screenplay is by a different writer. this one is not as close to jo, and took the liberty of...transposing a few events. things don't happen in the same order as the book, but it helped the flow.

7. about the flow. it's a little jerky. it's a big book with a lot of detail, and you can tell that they spent a lot of time in the editing room, cutting a second here, a second there just to get it all in...it's very tight and jumps from plot point to plot point pretty quickly, leaving out the brigework. it will take some getting used to. in fact, if you haven't read the book, you might have quite a bit of trouble keeping up....especially since, as siri pointed out, nowhere in the movies does it explain that they call sirius "padfoot." and then there's an important scene where harry uses the codename to get a message to snape.

8. THE SOUNDTRACK IS THE BEST SO FAR.

9. it's dark. but wonderful.

10. one last thought: my mother let me watch any movie i wanted growing up, no matter how scary or horrific. the one movie she wouldn't let in the house was "the exorcist." how interesting it was then, for me, to be watching what is essentially a kid's movie, and be reminded of it in one scene.

it's kind of hard, because i'd like to go back to the theatre and see it right away. but it'll have to wait until opening WHICH, remember, has been moved up to july 11 (or midnight, the evening of july 10). i can't wait for all of my hp-fan friends to see it too!!!
