things are winding down now that we've made our decisions and agreements. now it's just a matter of making arrangements with all of our billers and moving folk and finding time to take care of business. i'm actually going to be able to relax and have fun tonight. so looking forward to that. because next week will come. moving will happen. and then...dealings with the asslord.

he may be a pushover and susceptible to threats. or he may be a miser and steadied for an epic battle. we are shining up our shields and strapping on some breastplates, let me tell you. we are documenting the crap out of everything. keeping emails. taking pictures of caught mice and flea bites and poor workmanship. retaining receipts for all pest control products. we're not letting it slide.

sarah just called and canceled our internet hookup. comcast is going to give us a full refund and if we want to install at the new place, they'll waive the installation fee. that's pretty awesome for comcast. although i'm still going to check if USI is up and running around those parts. they're cheaper...and there's something indie about them that i like better. but yay, that's some money we'll recoup. every small victory is a ray of sunshine. it's the little things.

another little thing? the mouse house has free laundry. guess who's been going over there to take advantage? yeah. if we weren't sharing it with a really nice family i'd invite EVERYONE to come over and just wash the shit out of everything.

speaking of laundry and that nice family...they're a young couple with a 6 year old. we've talked. i locked myself out of the apartment one day and they offered to let me come in and hang out with them. they have an awesome dog. and they hate the lamelord too.

last night, i took their laundry out of the dryer to insert my own. based on conversations we'd had, i knew they'd like it if i folded their clothes. it was mostly towels and the girl's clothing. it was odd, because those clothes were so so small. i don't have kids and i probably won't...so this is something i'll not experience much. and i kept thinking, how can a six year old be so tiny?

and their towels were all very old. every one of them was either fraying or full of holes. i thought about the housing situation and the fact that they're probably not very well off. and if sarah and i take action, the city might condemn the house and that would mean these nice people would have to find somewhere else to live, and that would cause them hardship. at the same time, if they have mice too, that's not the best environment for a little girl to grow up in either. i don't know. it seems like anything we might do could affect them as well, and that makes things harder.

i know i have to look out for myself. i'm only hoping we can be clever enough to get the lamelord to fork over our losses without having to take legal steps. i mean, he'll continue to deal with complaints until he either fixes it or settles for renters so awful that they will cause him other problems. but for now, he's committed to the easy way of doing things. let's hope he's too lazy to look forward to going to court.
