what a lucky lady i am. forgot to set my alarm last night. i woke up an hour late, but still with time to get to work on time. no time to take a shower, but it's my skipday* so--with the help of a quick wash--it all worked out well. AND i got an extra hour of sleep.

i actually went to bed an hour early last night, so i really got TWO extra hours of sleep. i feel glorious. especially after the rather sleep-deprived week it started out to be.

although, i didn't have time to eat breakfast. but lucky me, someone brought bananas into the office.

and did you see today's woot? i've been juggling a foot rest and heater fan under my desk. it's akward. plus, i want to have my heater fan at home (since my heat isn't really fixed yet). and then they put up this beauty of a combo foot rest/foot massager/foot heater that was promptly snapped up, to be shipped directly here to my work, and take up residence under my desk where my cold feet and bad back will be thankful. i know it's a mundane thing to blog about, but i'm just so fkn happy about it.

can i just tell you about the they might be giants concert on tuesday night? here i list the reasons that made it the awesomest ever:

1) first ave, which also means that they played the "first avenue stage" song.
2) friends noe, ben, clarence, and nick in attendance
3) flood is my favorite album and, in celebration of its 20 year anniversary (amber feels old) they played every song from it, meaning that i loved pretty much every song of the concert.
4) sock puppets.
5) confetti cannons.
6) the most amazing rendition of "particle man" the earth has ever seen. seriously. little john can rock a 48 bass accordion to the point of my knees buckling in lust.
7) "escape from flood" and "return to flood" sirens and flashing lights whenever they deviated from the flood setlist.
8) THEY PLAYED A LESLIE GORE SONG. "maybe i know." (if you know me at all, and my leslie-worship, you understand. i think i may have mauled noe in my excitement.) TMBG + leslie = amber in tears.
9) then, for the final song of the final encore, they played "fingertips." really. the whole thing. omg.
10) TWO. STRAIGHT. HOURS. of TMBG. they took the stage at 8pm and kept on rocking 'til 10. yesssssss.

aaaaaaand i'm spent.
so i work in the galtier plaza in lowertown, the cool part of downtown st. paul. it's pretty swanky. glass elevators and vaulted greenhouse ceilings all that. offices overlooking a manicured park. you know. and for the past few months we've been enduring the sounds of construction all around us as our new neighbors, cray, get ready to take over the building this coming monday.

cray is a supercomputer company. legend has it that they are the technology behind NASA. they've pretty much bought up the plaza; anything that isn't already taken by our company and the YMCA.

we've been dreading their arrival. apart from disturbing the quiet of the very peaceful plaza, most of my coworkers are worried about the crayfaces taking up all the space in the parking ramp, causing congestion on the already slow elevators, and adding to the lunch lines at the surrounding restaurants. (personally, i could care less about all of this since i walk to work from free parking, take the stairs, and bring my own damn lunch.)

but something hit me today as i took my break in the lobby. there i was, staring off into space, looking at the frosted windows of the cray offices, eating candy that a coworker had brought in from the halloween overspill--strawberry nerds.

*lightning bolt*

nerds.
let me repeat:
cray is a supercomputer company.
they have so many people they bought up almost three floors of the plaza.
nerds.
nerds nerds nerds.
lots and lots of nerds nerds nerds.

!!!!

OMG. THIS IS GOING TO BE FANTASTIC.
