a whole new world.
Dec. 2nd, 2011 04:23 pmhi.
i'm shopping for a new car. most people around me have heard me talk a big game about the honda fit. i was pretty much sold. and then i test drove one. it is now my least favorite car.
the toyota yaris feels like being in a racecar. vroom vroom vroom, and packed in like a fish.
the nissan cube is like the quirky dream car i always wanted. i want it so much now.
but. i must continue to sample, and get drunk on test drives. tonight will probably be the kia soul and rio, a ford fiesta hatchback, and a mazda 2. if i have time, i'll go back to nissan and find a versa to putt around.
this is a whole new thing for me. i've never test driven a car other than the one i have now, and it was 10 years old at the time. it's 10 years older now. cars have changed so much. and dealers? i thought they would be pushy. actually, they're nice. they let you leave. some of them are actually just tired and want to sit in the back seat and look out the window for a while. one of them didn't even come with me, she gave me the key and told me to have fun.
my dad thinks i should buy new. i'll have it for a long time, and i should have something with a warranty, so i agree. but i think about what i have for a downpayment and what i will have to pay every month, and i realize my life will be very different for the next 60 months.
it's okay. i'm really scaling back. i have found the beauty of thrift store treasures and working out at home. there are always comps and pay-what-you-can performances to be had. i live across the street from a library. i will still have a budget for treating myself to yummy or pretty things here or there. and podcasts, podcasts are free.
it's for the best. i have been trying to scale back for a long while now. when one needs to reach a goal, it is nice to have a necessity to do so to make it happen.
i really like that cube. and what's more, it's actually the cheapest car i'm looking at. this may be fate. i will decide on that after more test drivings.
