one step closser to spectacles.
Feb. 3rd, 2010 10:49 amjust so you're all aware...erzulia is coming. monday monday monday!!!!
i think i may have burned my eyeballs this morning. the earth's rotation, my choice of time to drive to work, and the exact direction of one piece of 94E came together in a perfect storm of blindness this morning. i'm not joking: the traffic slowed to between 15 and 20 mph because you simply couldn't see the car ahead of you. the sun was that bright and direct, and low enough to the horizon where it was at the same level as the cars. i've never had that problem. it was bizarre.
and what are you going to do in that situation? you are driving a moving vehicle on a packed, 4-lane highway. the sun is directly in your feild of necessary vision. you can't pull over and you can't stop, and you can't change lanes because you know that the drivers behind you can't really see either. you have to squint and keep your eyes open to detect the car ahead of you. you HAVE to look into the sun. i still see ghosts of it when i blink.
i'm just glad it wasn't slippery as well. *shiver* there's a recipie for death.
i haven't had my sunglasses with me all winter. me, who is so light-sensitive that she can't see outside without them. but i've been going to work in the dark and coming out in it, so i haven't bothered. and i was cursing not having them this morning. not that it really would have helped that much. but it might have taken the edge off.
and i was immediately reminded of my dad saying that he would never live to the west of anywhere he worked. then you're driving into the sun on your way to work, and into it again on the way home. really. that's his main reason. but you know what? many of the things my dad said i thought were silly when i was growing up...now i see the wisdom in't.
i see it even if i'm FKN BLINDED BY WINTER SUN. ow.
