sunday didn't start off well. no hot water again, which is the surest way to get me to the throwing-things mode of amberfury. i tried calling my mom for a couple of hours, but they don't have call-waiting and my nephews were on the internet. all this was heightened by PMS, so i just threw on some clothes and went to do my shopping, hoping that would cheer me up.
i set sunday aside to go pick up the vestages of presents and little things i need for christmas. didn't get very far.
you see, my car has this little quirk where i'm going along and everything's fine and then it just shuts off. oh, it keeps rolling, but it's off. so i throw it into neutral and start it back up, no worries. the last time it did that, i was working at SAG.
i was surprised, but not unprepared. this time though, it wouldn't turn back on.
i eagle eyed a spot on the side of the road i could roll to, and a couple of friendlies helped push me into place.
called my dad. still busy ?!?!?!? let's see. it's sunday, the boys must be there with my sister. called my sister's phone. left a message. called my regular shop and got a recommended tow place. called the tow place and gave them my info. looked at my phone....who else could help. ah! i call kris--who is uber reliable!--and ask her to pen an email to my mom that i need to talk to her and please get off the internet. dad calls.
he says it's either electrical or needs a new fuel pump.
i get towed to the shop where i just recently had my alternator replaced. the owner, walter, is good enough to come in for me even though his shop is closed. he takes a look, tells me to come up and take a look too, and starts teaching. it's either electrical or needs a new fuel pump, he says.
he opens the gates, rolls my car in, and hands me the keys to an old saab hatchback with a cracked winshield. it's not pretty, but it'll drive until my car is checked over on monday.
so now i'm waiting to see how much more of my money my car needs to eat. i mean, it's at 92,000 miles, so it's about that time. and it's good to know there IS money stuffed away and available if i need it.
i guess it's always better to have a working car than a pretty ipod anyway. *shuffles feet* shoot.
