heard of freerice.com?
well, you have now.
so this dude is helping his son study for the SATs and trying to come up with a way to boost his vocabulary skills. his younger son was mocking the whole process, so he made it into a game for both of them.
by a twist of fate, said dude was the mastermind behind poverty.com, a website devoted to educating people about the state of world hunger and national poverty levels.
and he decided to combine the two ideas.
when you go to freerice, you get to play a vocabulary game. it's pretty simple to start off with. you're given a word and four possible meanings/snyonyms. it gets harder as you go, from level one to fifty. pick the wrong one, and nothing much happens. pick the right one, and something wonderful occurs.
the site donates 20 grains of rice through the WFP (world food program) for every word you get right.
20 grains of rice isn't a lot. you could play all day and only donate enough for one meal for one person. but get this: this game is being promoted and used in several schools and colleges around the country. kids are using it to learn and it's one of the most-vistited fk-around-during-work sites. your meal is joining hundreds and thousands of others.
and you're getting smarter too.
it's a win-win.
and it's another good site to go to when you're bored at work
it's a win-win-win.
don't forget the good dose of karma.
win-win-win-win.
go get your win on.
