the move, pt. 5
Aug. 4th, 2007 10:14 ami've been having bad dreams lately. mostly about moving back to minnesota and then seeing how sad it makes gabe. and then i wake up and i'm happy about being in california. now that the roaches have been sprayed away and i've gotten out and about...
which reminds me, i totally have to thank zoe and ceasar for suggesting the thomas guide! omg. who knew that rand mcnally went above and beyond with their maps??? basically, the thomas guides are fat spiral-bound map books that take your city in sections and give you detail street maps and zip codes and neighborhood names; detailing things like shopping centers and libraries. i now know, for example, that i live in country club park, not koreatown; though koreatown is like, 4 blocks away. apparently, we also have a little tokyo and a little thai town too, which sound like appropriate saturday outings. anyway, with a thomas map and google, L.A. is my fkn oyster. just turn the driving dial up two more notches crazy and two more aggressive, and i can get anywhere. it's very liberating.
this whole week i have been--at first glance--rather lazy, making it my job to send out emails and journals, as well as keep the apartment clean and get more unpacking done. for the moment, we still have a lot in boxes because we desperately need a bookcase and a wardrobe...there is not much storage space here. the wardrobe is coming, via gabe's old roommate, but craigslist bookcase hunting has also been my job.
there was also a shopping spree to be had! whee! rico needed a cage and i found him a palace:

(tricked out with jumping platforms, a wheel, and a tasty house he can chew on. took out the wire bottom and made it deeper too!)
i saved space by not bringing my big fat monitor, so getting a new, wide-screen flat-panel was a major purchase:

very sleek (thank you to the chapter 13 friends, i used the gift card to pay for most of this)
and a new sofa (imagine it in darker brown)

i've also been managing the fixing of the fridge, the delivery of the couch, the spraying of the roaches, the installation of cable internet, and the delivery of packages containing possessions that wouldn't fit in the car. grocery shopping. returns to target. finding the nearest ATM and western union for rent paying. i've been a very busy girl.
today i can get my resume all polished so i can apply for some damn jobs on monday. then hopefully my job next week can be interviews.
but. for those who want pics of the new apartment, it's coming. just let us get a few more things out of boxes first.
