upheaval of annual traditions!
Mar. 5th, 2006 06:33 pmhi. i'm not watching the oscars tonight. why?
1) i said last year that if imelda staunton didn't win best actress, that i would never watch the oscars again. now. while that was an empty threat, i am still in upset about it...i still get angry when i think of the fact that they seated her way over to the fucking side away from all the A-listers, as if she wasn't a bloody force to be reckoned with herself. incidentally, danny avritt had a friend who was sitting next to imelda in a resturant the day after her role in OOTP was announced and fought the urge to go up to the woman and gush all over her. i would have. anyway.
2) i haven't seen all of the big films = i've been too busy = i've been doing way more theatre this year = best case scenario.
3) i only get UPN and FOX. and i don't think the oscars are playing on either channel. i would beg a friend to come over and watch, but everyone i know has plans except the safferts and they get fewer channels than i do. so i'm stealing them tonight and making them come watch "hamlet" at the guthrie. which i think is a comperable alternative to oscar night. i mean, hell. it's "hamlet" (read "amber's favorite play") and it's at the guthrie (read "big whoop, but it's the last show of theirs that will be a block away and i don't have to drive").
4) i'm asking my mom to tape it so i can watch it later and cut out all the commercials and therefore waste just that much less of my life.
