it's erzulia!  here's how it works!

a special thanks to  [livejournal.com profile] sheilagh   who commented on then entry with some interesting doohickies to add to the diety-tastic background to vodun.  if any yous would like to add some ritual to your erzulia happenings, there's another loa to be aware of, and i quote:

"The only thing I might add is some good mention of Papa Legba. He "opens the way" (a bit like Ganesh) and is invoked to both open and to close ceremonies.

"Bonus! He's a Monday kind of Loa (that's his day) so starting the 6 days on a Monday is idea. At the bottom of this page you'll find a list of offerings he digs, including rum & tobacco: http://www.spellmaker.com/legba.htm

"See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papa_Legba & http://www.mysticvoodoo.com/papa_legba.htm for a bit more."

also thanks to [livejournal.com profile] scathach for passing it on and  flannelcat  for  posting the link to my wonderful little holiday.  WORD TO YOUR MASSES, ERZULIA IS ABOUT LIFE!

okay.  so today's my luxury day.  it's pretty simple as far as luxury goes.  i'm wearing my most comfortablest work clothing.  i've accepted an invitation from one of the managers here who is going to take some of the assistants out to lunch (fancy or not, i ALWAYS glory in the wonder that is the free lunch).  and tonight?  well.  a year ago the lawyer i worked for gave me a very expensive, handmade rose-scented bath bomb.  i haven't used it yet.  my skin has been very dry and it's californiacold these days--all rainy and bonechill--so i'm going to soak until i come out allover raisins.

happy erzulia, all!

boy's been bringing home a lot of scripts lately, and i've been digging into a few. on the backburner movie scripts, i've got "world war z" and "time traveler's wife." right now i'm reading through a few new pilots, including a new reworking of "V," not the vendetta...the lizard aliens. why can't they just leave more-than-well-enough alone?????

anyway. i've just finished one called "happy town." i'd advise all fans of "lost," "twin peaks," "jericho" and "friday night lights" to keep an eye out for this one. the pilot is being made and i'm really hoping it gets picked up.

it's set in the fictional town of haplin, MN, a sleepy little town of 9000, just a trainride north of the cities. of course there's a core cast of about 20 very colorful characters, and the pilot cleverly finds a way to introduce all of them and their creepy connections to each other. i won't say much, but i will list a few facts to whet you...

--missing children
--"our daily" bakery that makes the air smell good
--a vampiric trans-atlantic with a movie memorabilia shop
--thaw fest
--a reacurring symbol incorporating a question mark and halo
--"the magic man"
--"handsome sam"
--murder in an ice shack by way of hammering a railroad tie into a skull (shown)
--a quartet of elderly boy-crazy widows
--a boarding house with a forbidden floor
--a de-handing by way of tommahawk
--good use of songs by megadeath, clap your hands say yeah, carly simon, and chicago's "saturday in the park"

it's creepy and dark and a fkn pity that the screenplay won't be in wide release, because it's GOOD screenwriting. some of the very best i've seen.

(i'm not going to list the writing team here, just to be safe.)

i have to admit that i'm not a big fan of some of this team's shows ("life on mars," "october road," "alias") but i'd really like to see this one take off. i wonder too if abrams is going to produce. i hope not, but i wouldn't be surprised. and it's an ABC script...so i'm hoping they throw it on wednesdays and use "lost"s audience.
