i see all my friends are talking about snow. kat is writing love letters in it, noe is watching her dog eat it, and duncan's just commenting on it in a snarky way.
i miss snow. obviously, not the driving part; driving in snow is a tense affair for me. and i hate the once-a-year, rite of passage, ass-to-ice extravaganza. snow emergencies. walking home from work in blizzards. salt on my car. planning extra driving time, plus engine-warm time, plus shoveling and scraping time. drippy nose, runny mascara, hat hair. sloppy, brown slush. but still. i miss looking at it. it's good for looking at. nowhere will really feel like home without it.
i turned on the tv hoping for a cheesy sunday movie, but i got the news and weather. 48 degrees. what they call "chilly." and i mean, yeah, it gets cold here, and 48 degrees is colder here than in minnesota, where it's a dry cold. here, it's wet and damp. that gets straight to your innards and doesn't let go. it rained here on friday. and while that was a nice change (and i was the only one at work NOT complaining), i didn't really like sitting around my cubicle in cold, wet sneakers all day. harsh.
i've broken out my slippers and sweaters...something i never had to use in minneapolis because they always kept the heat cranked in my apartment. but there's no heat here...i'm actually using blankets rather than just hanging them off the back of the couch. and it's a relief to get into bed at night...it's the warmest place in the apartment.
i just feel cheated that i have to be cold and don't get the pleasure of seeing snow along with it.
