happy discoveries.
Nov. 1st, 2007 04:44 pmwell, i've been at my job five days now and am starting to get the hang of
things. some of the legal documents are still a bit confusing and i'm still
asking tons of questions and annoying the hell out of people, but for the
most part, it's just general office work and the pay is great for what i'm
doing.
i just got my security badge today, so i feel very important. I beep into
departments i walk past, just because i can. but i don't go in. it makes
people wonder.
i get an hour for lunch here (at chapter 13, i only got 30 minutes), and
that is a luxury. so i spent some time outside exploring the century city
area on santa monica blvd. avenue of the stars is a block away and i went
to see if there's any hollywood fanciness there...nope. it's just the name
of the street.
but there WAS a farmers market!!! joy!!! every thursday, i gather. this
one is small, but more diverse than the one on nicollet mall. the veggies
look healthier, and all the flower salesmen have orchids in pots. there are
also food stands: mexican, korean, greek, thai-mex; and stalls that sell
homemade hummus and peach deserts and tortillas. i bought me a present of stoplight bell peppers and fresh sweet corn. so that's another good
thing!
yet another good thing? i took the bus today. even though my parking is
provided, i have to have it valet parked everyday and get my parking
valedated. even though the valets are really nice and refer to me as
"senorita," i still don't like valet services. especially since this place
is swanky and my car is old and messy and covered in crap because my
apartment parking spot is under a tree that shits sticky flower parts and
dust all over it. also...i'm always unsure if i'm supposed to tip them or
not....it's very uncomfortable for me.
anyway. the bus. i have to walk four blocks to a stop, but then i'm on and
it goes straight to my workplace, no transfers. lovely. now i can use the commute time to read or play DS. and, from what
metro.net tells me, i'm saving about four dollars a day by current gas
prices! plus--helping the environment! go me!
the people that ride though...um. there may be some fun stories out of
that.
okay. since i'm getting paid nicely and have no one to hate/undermine, i
must get back to that work.
