just having it out. don't mind me.
Aug. 3rd, 2005 09:14 ami think it's wrong for any human to take the life of another. i don't support the death penalty because of this...i can't ever see the moral justification of putting someone down, no matter what they've done. it's a fat chance, but that person may just come around someday and decide to better themselves and forgive themselves and make their life (albeit imprisioned) worthwhile.
i understand the viewpoint of the opposing team on this and agree that everyone's oppinion is valid. but the only one that makes me ill is the republican sentiment of "well, would you rather they just be sitting in jail eating our tax dollars?" actually, personally, yes. if i knew my tax dollars were keeping someone dangerous out of society and also paying for that person to live a life away from the possibility of harming themselves or others, then yes. i don't often have extra money to give to charitible organizations, but if my tax dollars are doing that work for me, bonus. but to want to kill people just because you're so in love with your money? to begrudge your goodwill toward society because you did the work yourself and want to lounge in the luxury of all it bennefits...
far be it from me to dictate the moral standards of a society. but a cent out of every other dollar i make is more than worth it to me to not have to make a judgement call that makes me no better than a murderer myself...i'll give it gladly. it seems an awful excuse for such an extreme penalty...to save a little money. but. anyone's expendable for chump change. that's what this great country was founded on i guess.
(and if you're not bad enough to get yourself killed, then i guess you're good enough for the government to gunnea pig you. somewhere, some dudes in white make a tick mark for every new case of cancer. "yes, sir, high fructose corn syrup is bad. any other theories you want to test? we've got billions of expendibles." *sigh* but that's a whole other bitch session.)
okay. sorry for the rant. i was just contemplating the issues of cloning today and thought i'd make a joke about locking up sex offenders and murderers not for excecution but for potential organ harvesting. that way republicans would get their death penalty and people in need would get their parts. that would be the greatest punishment...losing control not over your own life, but your own wishes as to your disposal as well. in some ways, better for society. in others, even less moralistic than i had hoped.
i hate people. i hate greedy people. i hate money. i'm in a really bad mood today.
